On July 20, 2003,
St. Peter's Syriac Orthodox Church of Canada celebrated her first ever
Holy Qurbana with the blessings and guidance of His Holiness Moran Mor
Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, Prince Patriarch of Antioch and All the East. The
Holy Qurbana was celebrated by Very Rev. Fr. Jos Thomas Corepiscopa, Vicar
of the new church.
A Godly aspiration
of meeting the challenges of living a Christian life in this age; carrying
forward the holy and inspired traditions of the Syriac Orthodox Church;
and continuing a close fellowship in worshipping our Lord were the driving
forces behind the inception of the church. This need was recognized by
His Grace Mor Yulius Kuriakose, First Secretary to the Patriarch and Patriarchal
Assistant for Malankara, who facilitated communication with His Holiness
with regards to starting this new church.
St. Peter's is a member
of the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church in North America
under His Eminence Mor Tithus Yeldho. Our Patriarch, His Holiness Moran
Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, reigns as the 122nd successor to St. Peter
the Apostle.
We continue to pray
for this fledgling church to grow spiritually and bear manifold fruits
- both in our personal lives and in the society at large. All glory be
to God.
